My thoughts on Basquiat

My thoughts on Basquiat

Basquiat was a representative of cultural mindset in New York. He was once the best street graffiti artist in the 80’s.  He represents himself as an abstract expressionist or pop artist like Andy Warhol.

Basquiat was well known for his contribution towards humanitarian and societal issues. He conveys the message in graffiti artform. His ideology is based on freedom and justice in USA.

Basquiat emphasized that expressing through art is important. He was expressing his difficulties and experiences throughout his years of self-studying. Basquiat couldn’t afford any financial support to educate himself. He had decided to become a graffiti artist.

Basquiat had drawn numerous of art pieces. It tells messages about the entertainment industry and culture around. It is a theme of humanitarian and social issues in New York during the 1980’s. He had drawn an art piece about environmental issue such as global warming. He expresses his feelings for those, who were adopted and going into the harsh world.

One of Basquiat’s artpieces is very popular even till now. The ‘Irony of Negro Policeman, in which he describe the art theme of racial issues between the whites and blacks. It explains perceptions of identifying people through skin colour. Another artwork was titled as defacement, which talks about the death of Michael Stewart. He had the originality throughout his art pieces. He got the help from a famous pop artist named as Andy Warhol, who introduced Campbell’s advertisement for morning breakfast commercials.  Basquiat doesn’t have any styles. It perhaps he was influenced by other artist such as Rauschenberg. He made his own ideas and drew without realizing consciously aware.

Unfortunately, Basquiat was involved with unknown people. He began to gamble and taking high dose of drugs known as Ecstasy. He got influenced through the negative social activities. He was criticized that his art pieces to be inappropriate.  He was in his mid-twenties and become very popular.

I state my opinion, that Basquiat just needed love and good personal care. He needed psychologist to help with his illnesses. He did not need to socialize to become an artist. He must have his own principles to achieve and be motivated. He needed to have an alternative solution of avoiding negative social activities. An artist needs to have new inspirations and aspirations, to overcome media critics. Lifestyle could also affect living status. He should have some time for himself to reflect.
